Final Words

The preceding pages present an introduction to dynamic puppets, and provide a useful function for attaching behaviours at runtime. However, this is not an exhaustive discussion of the topic and I will update the information here as soon as I get a chance. In the meantime, if you have any specific questions not covered here then feel free to contact me.

Here are some specific notes about dynamic puppets not mentioned on the previous pages:

  • Director MX 2004
MX2004 brings with it a new way to create dynamic puppets: the methods makeScriptedSprite and removeScriptedSprite. These provide a documented way to create dynamic puppets. According to Macromedia however, these methods are currently still prone to the same problems as creating dynamic puppets with puppetSprite, however, in future releases it is expected that these problems will be ironed out.

  • Windows For Shockwave
If you are not an experienced Lingo programmer or simply want to save time then Jim Andrews has an off-the-shelf behaviour library for handling dynamic puppets, especially GUI widgets, which you might find useful. This is called Windows for Shockwave and you can buy it from Vispo (not affiliated in any way with Killing Moon Ltd.).
